EarthWatch — Global Disaster Monitor
EarthWatch helps you explore reported earthquakes, floods, tropical cyclones, droughts, wildfires, volcanoes, tsunamis and space weather. Use a globe, map or event list to find reports, compare timestamps and follow the evidence to its original source.
Connected event feeds include the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS), NASA EONET and NOAA space-weather bulletins. Solar images come from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory and Helioviewer. NASA GIBS supplies available satellite cloud imagery. Official NHC advisories are linked resources; they are not a separately imported event feed.
Coverage is partial and products have different update schedules. Observations, forecasts, warnings and humanitarian estimates answer different questions. An empty feed does not mean all clear, and a report in a selected time window does not prove an event is still active.
How to read EarthWatch
- Choose a hazard, source and time window.
- Colors identify hazards; cluster numbers group nearby reports at the current zoom.
- Check whether a record is an observation, forecast, warning, discovery or impact report.
- Compare the provider timestamp with the retrieval time; data may be cached or delayed.
- Open the original source and follow local authorities for emergency instructions.
